Northwestern Hospital Oby-Gyn Clinic

The program required a single source entry for financial control but separate waiting area for the four medical disciplines of women’s health care: Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gynecology, Oncology/Genetics, and Reproductive. A major priority of the design was the aesthetic comfort of the medical staff and patients.

Several architectural features for orientation consisted of coved-shaped ceilings and arches, an illumination system of direct and indirect lighting, reception units identified by visual graphics, and carpet with directional geometric patterns. Clustered seating configurations assisted the patient's orientation toward a particular medical discipline. Within the various disciplines, the examination rooms were developed as clusters for functional medical efficiency and patient orientation.
