Lifesource
For its relocation, the client purchased an existing
standard office building which lacked medical infrastructure systems. The
new program consisted of the corporate offices, blood processing operations,
blood donor facility, blood testing programs, and rare blood storage.
The creditability of quality blood processing required the optimum
processing procedures. The laboratory was placed on the first floor, having
full glass window walls demonstrating creditability to the public. A modular
casework system achieved the flexibility for changing equipment advances and
added blood testing procedures to safeguard against new developing diseases.
The mechanical systems and emergency systems required extensive upgrading to
maintain continuous equipment operation, including the maintenance of the
rare blood collection consisting of many coffin deep freezers.
On the existing second floor, many perimeter window offices were removed in
favor of a low partition wall system throughout the floor which allowed
natural sunlight to penetrate the interior spaces of the floor.
